How to yarn-bomb a coffee shop

  • Find your target

  • Pace out the site

  • Plan your attack

  • Get knitting!

My grateful thanks go to Angie and Lui from Honour Espresso in Graceville for being such amazing sports! Susan Prior

Take a basket of wool ...

Start knitting in random stripes ...

Keep knitting ... and knitting

Get Monty Dog to lend a hand ...

Join the squares and make some monster feet (every downpipe needs a monster foot!) ...

Now construct the banner ...

Get a friend to make some pom poms (thanks Merrie!) ...

Every pole has to have a little mouse!

The sign is up.

The banner in place. I left cards and some gold pens for people to write messages to the cafe owners.

Start making some crochet squares and a few letters for the sign ...

Hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs: knitted, then stitched to the banner and slightly padded ... (Tip: it is a long way down to the floor, so keep the phone and TV remotes handy!)

The crocheted squares are for the awning poles outside the cafe.

Line the banner and hang it from a pole ... (Top: Monty Dog stole the empty milk carton and chewed it, as you do.)

Monster toes!

Sneak out the next morning and watch the fun!

Grab your partner and your Mum (no matter that she had a knee replacement two weeks earlier) and get them to help with the installation. At night. In the dark. No, you won't get arrested!
